Looking to try your hand building a dynamic website? There are lots of technologies out there that run on the server and provide for dynamic websites. Dynamic websites are websites that have content which changes based on parameters or options. A static website is “what you see is what you get”. The interaction is essentially limited to clicking a couple of links. With dynamic website the possibilities are limitless. One such technology is Microsoft’s Asp.Net (ASP.NET on Wikipedia). Now in version 2 it has come a long way. There are powerful editors and tools as well as communities for Asp.net programmers. However these tools and applications can be expensive for hobbyist. In recognition of hobbyists Microsoft has released four lightweight editors for the DotNet languages and made the freely downloadable until the end of 2006. Visual Web Developer Express is designed for the Asp.net 2.0 framework. It is essentially a trimmed down version of the Visual Studio Environment. The Express Editions are incredibly powerful and easy to use. They provide a graphical user interface with makes getting start a snap. As you progress and learn you can go behind the forms and right into the code. Visual Web Developer Website |
